The Summer/Fall 2013 issue of Studio magazine will be available at the Museum on July 18, just in time for the opening of our Summer exhibitions! The cover features a reproduction of Senga Nengudi's Performance Piece (1978), which will be on view in our upcoming Fall/Winter 2013–14 exhibition, Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art, traveling to the Studio Museum and NYU’s Grey Art Gallery from Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Inside, you’ll find a preview of The Shadows Took Shape, an international exhibition on Afrofuturism, also opening this Fall; a conversation with the 2012-13 Artists in Residence; an essay by Odili Donald Odita on Ayé A. Aton; reproductions of texts by Jayne Cortez and Octavia Butler; two fun art activities for kids; and much, much more! This issue also includes a full-color, pull-out poster with artwork by Robert Pruitt in celebration of his Summer 2013 exhibition, Robert Pruitt: Women! Studio is available for free to Museum visitors and also for viewing online.
